FORECAST SUMMARY

WFMZ-TV 69News Weather (2)

In the wake of a cold front that brought some severe weather to parts of the region late Wednesday, a drier and more comfortable air mass has now settled in to round out the remainder of the week. Thursday saw a return to more seasonable high temperatures in the low to mid 80s along with a drop in dew points to more comfortable levels in the 50s. A large area of high pressure over the Great Lakes and Eastern Canada will continue to influence our weather into Friday keeping things nice, dry, and sunny. Temperatures and humidity start to climb back up a little over the weekend as another cold front approaches from our west Saturday evening bringing the usual summertime showers and thunderstorms along with it. High pressure will once again settle back in to start next week leading to a return of plenty of sunshine along with seasonable temperatures and comfortable humidity values. The heat and humidity will gradually start to creep up as we move through the middle to latter part of next week, just in time for the Fourth of July, with some 90-degree high temperatures perhaps returning just in time for the holiday. At this point, no active storm systems look to impact the region around the 4th of July, but we may still have a slight chance for at least a stray shower or thunderstorm thanks to the increasing heat and humidity.

DETAILED FORECAST

TONIGHT

Thanks to high pressure building by to our north tonight, skies will be mainly clear with lightening winds and very comfortable sleeping conditions. Dry air will continue to build in across the region allowing temperatures to drop off to some refreshingly cool levels. Nighttime lows should settle back into the mid 50s.

FRIDAY

WFMZ-TV 69News Weather (3)

High pressure will build off the coast for Friday but will retain a strong grip on the region’s weather leading to another dry day with ample sunshine. High temperatures will also remain close to seasonable levels topping out in the low 80s. Dew points will remain at very comfortable levels in the 40s courtesy of lots of dry air.

SATURDAY

A southerly wind flow will return for Saturday while a warm front gradually lifts north through the region to start the day. Cloudier skies will return with just some breaks of sun Saturday, but the southerly wind flow in place along with dry conditions for a while should still allow high temperatures to reach the mid 80s. It will also feel stickier Saturday as the southerly wind flow increases dew points through the 60s. We will be tracking a cold front slowly moving in from our west later in the afternoon which could start to spark a few showers and thunderstorms. Much of the daytime Saturday however looks dry, but by Saturday night, the chance for showers and thunderstorms should go up as the aforementioned cold front starts to cross the region. A couple thunderstorms have the potential to produce strong winds, hail, and torrential downpours, however at this time a more organized severe weather threat looks to stay mainly well away to our west.

SUNDAY

Our cold front is expected to linger somewhere near the coast for Sunday and will probably be close enough to still keep a stray shower or thunderstorm in the forecast, especially from the morning through midday timeframe and closer to I-95 and south and east to the Shore. Many should likely stay dry however Sunday, and we’ll likely start the day cloudy before more in the way of sunshine returns for the afternoon. With more sun expected Sunday compared to Saturday, we expect high temperatures to climb back into the upper 80s, maybe even nearing 90 degrees in a few spots, and dew points will remain high in the 60s and 70s making for heat index values above 90 degrees even if the air temperature isn’t.

MONDAY THROUGH THE 4th OF JULY

The cold front from the weekend will make more headway offshore to start the new week allowing high pressure to again return from the Great Lakes and Eastern Canada. This setup will once again lead to some very nice and refreshing conditions for Monday and Tuesday. Both days should be mostly sunny and dry. High temperatures Monday should be around 80 degrees followed by slight warming into the mid 80s for Tuesday. High pressure will build off the coast moving into Wednesday and the 4th of July Thursday allowing our wind flow to become southwesterly again. This will aid in continued warming along with an uptick in dew points and humidity values. 90 degrees or higher is not out of the question for the high on the 4th of July, so it may very well be a classic hot/humid summer day to celebrate the holiday. Only an isolated storm chance is in the forecast for the 4th at this time.
